You smell that?
It’s in your story. Run through your story, in your mind, and find the scene with the greatest amount of scent. It might smell good. It might not. It might be in the setting. Or maybe it’s from a person. Or an object.
The scent could be familiar, or maybe it’s not. Maybe it’s an active part of the scene or story, or maybe it just permeates in a distracting way or delights in an alluring way. Whatever. Find the scene with the most potential to describe smell.
If the scent isn’t already interactive in the scene, can you make it more so? Can the scent play a role? Provide a clue? Become an obstacle?
Think about how you might make the scents of your story do more.
